Documentation of Coursework

This page features descriptions of all relevant coursework that I took during my time at Clemson. Courses are grouped into the following categories: Language-Oriented Instruction, Culture and Literature Courses, and Business Courses.

Language-Oriented Instruction

SPAN 2010/2020

Intermediate Spanish

​

A two-part, intermediate level course that focused on enhancing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, while providing a review of grammatical structures and foundational vocabulary and introducing new literary and cultural perspectives. 

SPAN 3020/3050

Intermediate Spanish Grammar and Composition/Conversation and Composition

​

These courses further developed my writing skills, with an in-depth review of Spanish grammar, verbs, idioms, and vocabulary (as well an introduction to syntax and stylistic elements), and my speaking skills, with a focus on vocabulary, pronunciation, intonation, and comprehension.

SPAN 4090 (Santiago de Compostela)

Comprehensive Writing in Spanish

​

An exploration of stylistics combined with a grammar review, focusing on writing paragraphs, short compositions, and creative papers, covering both fiction and non-fiction topics. Instructed by a professor at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, this course helped to drastically improve my writing skills.

SPAN 4110 (Santiago de Compostela)

Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition

​

A continuation of ideas introduced in SPAN 3050, with a focus on improving fluency and sophistication in both oral and written expression and reaching an advanced level of Spanish communication. Engaged in frequent, high-level conversations with peers and the professor, and completed a variety of extensive writing activities.​

SPAN 3160/4160

Spanish for International Business I and II

​

The first class in this series introduced me to the Spanish-speaking business world, with an introduction to business vocabulary and basic business and cultural concepts. The second class expanded upon these concepts, with a focus on more complex business vocabulary, marketing in the Spanish-speaking world, and a study of Hispanic economies and markets. 

Culture and Literature Courses

SPAN 3070 (Santiago de Compostela)

The Hispanic World: Spain

​

This course served as an introduction to Spanish history and culture, with a detailed study of the artistic, social, historical, and political aspects of the Iberian Peninsula from its origins to the present.

SPAN 3130 (Santiago de Compostela)

Spanish Literature Survey

​

A comprehensive study of Spanish literature, including the most notable literary movements, influences, and authors of Spain's past. Featured a wide variety of directed readings and in-class discussions, with a focus on finding connections between the literature and Spanish history.

SPAN 4070 (Santiago de Compostela)

Hispanic Film

​

An in-depth analysis of a variety of Spanish films, with a specific focus on women directors and their works. The course examined how Spanish women have used film as a medium to portray the social, cultural, and historical realities of Spain over the years, as well as the inequalities and prejudices that they have faced and fought against.

Business Courses

ACCT 2010

Financial Accounting Concepts

​

An in-depth introduction to the principles of accounting, with a focus on the analysis of financial statements and the components of these statements. I learned the basics of accounting and how to record transactions and changes in balances through spreadsheets such as Excel.

MATH 1020/2070

Business Calculus I and II

​

This two-part course served as a review of calculus concepts with which I was already familiar with, such as functions and graphing, differentiation, and integration, and an introduction to new and more complex concepts, such as calculus of several variables, differential calculus, optimization of several variables, and multiple integrals.

MGT 2010

Principles of Management

​

An introduction to management, more specifically its role as a key element in economic production. This course showcased the functions and operations of management, the basic principles of management organization, and managerial behavior in organizations.

MGT 4230

International Business Management

​

An analysis of how managers navigate the volatile and constantly-changing landscape of international business, as well as the institutions and frameworks that make up this landscape. Key topics included exporting, importing, foreign investment, multinational enterprises, and the international payment system.

MKT 3020

Consumer Behavior

​

An in-depth analysis of the science of individual and group behavior, in the context of marketing and advertising. An introduction to the trends and patterns of consumer decision making, and how marketers utilize these trends to effectively guide their advertising.

MKT 3320

Digital Marketing

​

This course expanded upon my prior marketing knowledge by serving as an introduction to the digital marketing landscape. Valuable concepts such as creating and maintaining a comprehensive digital marketing strategy, as well as key digital marketing methods and strategies (such as SEO optimization and social media marketing) were all explored.

MKT 4270

International Marketing

​

This course presented a study of marketing through an international lens, and demonstrated how marketing strategies and practices must be adapted differently for different markets. Illustrated how cultural differences can play an crucial role in developing and implementing effective marketing strategies.

ENGL 3040

Business Writing​

​​

Served as a comprehensive introduction to drafting and writing texts commonly found in business settings, such as resumes, cover letters, reports, and proposals. Provided a variety of valuable writing strategies and an introduction to audience, context, and purpose in business writing contexts. Created a full business strategy proposal for a local business by the end of the course.

ECON 2110

Principles of Microeconomics

​

An introduction to economic reasoning and how it applies to consumer and business decision-making, with a focus on foundational topics such as market competition, monopolies, international trade, and the influence of public policy.

ECON 3060

Managerial Economics

​

Further built upon economic knowledge by using economic analysis tools to solve real-world problems, to gather and assess information, and to analyze different possible economic options from a managerial perspective. Effectively linked economic theory with real-world management practices, and demonstrated how these two often go hand-in-hand.

ECON 3100

International Economy â€‹

​

An in-depth look at the complex processes of international business and commerce. Introduced fundamental concepts such as trade and exchange rates, institutional and legal frameworks, and current policy challenges. Applied prior knowledge of economic theory through a global lens, with an analysis of how trade is conducted across borders and all over the world.
